Music
Music plays a key role in our daily lives on campus. The St. Timothy's School Choir performs a wide range of music each week during Chapel services. The Choir performs an English Lessons and Carols service during the Christmas season and a Sacred Concert during the spring semester. We also offer an a cappella singing group, Salut in the Morning, and an English handbell choir. All students are encouraged to participate in the music program regardless of previous experience.
The Fine Arts Department at St. Timothy’s includes choral, piano, and music appreciation courses. Our Appreciation of Classical Music course surveys classical music from the Middle Ages through the 20th-century. Students explore the history and theories of various works, with an emphasis on orchestral and piano pieces.
Piano is taught from a repertoire of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern pieces and is studied along with technical exercises, scales, cadences, and arpeggios. After completing the advanced course, students may elect to take the Maryland Piano Board examination. All piano lessons are given on weekends. Level of study is determined at the beginning of the year by the teacher.
