    Student Life Curriculum

    The Student Life Curriculum represents our continuing commitment to providing students with a comprehensive living and learning environment, one that encourages students to reach their full potential in non-academic as well as academic pursuits. In order to do so, that environment must recognize individuality, allow choice in school life, and encourage respectful relationships among all members of our educational community. It is essential that the residential and social aspects of life at St. Timothy’s School contribute signifi¬cantly to the intellectual and personal growth of each student.

    Through house-centered sessions and school meetings, the student life curriculum provides a formal setting for discourse. Students meet with faculty and professional staff to explore topics essential to healthy human development and community growth. Through the day-to-day work of the Dean of Students’ Office and faculty, the program emphasizes personal support and development, accountability, recreation, service, leadership, community building, internationalism, and spiritual development.

    The Student Life Curriculum is intentional. It is our opportunity to use life outside of the classroom as a laboratory for what is gained in the classroom. The Student Life Curriculum is our formal effort to ensure that our students develop personal strength, integrity, kindness, cooperation, compassion, and the skills to leave the world a better place.
    As a close and welcoming community, St. Timothy’s School attempts to provide each girl with a strong sense of self. It is a place where lifetime friendships are built. Our students become citizens, scholars, and leaders by engaging in activities that encourage them to take risks and explore new opportunities. The Student Life Curriculum promotes good health and a sense of well being, the development of individual responsibility, and accountability. As students look beyond the classroom walls for inspiration and knowledge, they discover hidden talents and mature into independent adults with well-developed characters, a sense of integrity and a readiness to make meaningful contributions and shape our ever-changing world.

    The St. Timothy’s School Student Life Curriculum is a deliberate, purposeful, and comprehensive approach to learning beyond the classroom that contributes to the development of the whole student. The curriculum is designed to ensure that the residential and social life of students supports the mission of the school and contributes to each student’s maturity and well-being.

    The purpose of the Student Life Curriculum is to assist our young women as they become leaders who:

    • Seek to develop a global perspective so that they become informed, bold, resourceful, and ethical members of society;

    • Are intellectually and psychologically robust;

    • Have the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina to reach their goals;

    • Have collaborative and competitive skills;

    • Balance work and play; and

    • Develop a love of and commitment to life long learning.

    Each individual learns to become her own advocate and how to best under¬stand and celebrate the differences between individuals.

    The Student Life Curriculum is organized around three themes — “Ethics, Values and Leadership,” “The Well Being of Young Women,” and “World Citizenship.” The school fosters an atmosphere of openness and trust as students explore topics including: ethical decision making, respect for others, honesty, integrity, critical thinking, self respect, spiritual develop¬ment, healthy choices, human sexuality, world cultures, economics, diversity, and various global issues. During each term, the themes are also explored through student involvement with various speakers, workshops, activities, and events.
