Varsity Volleyball game versus FCA

FCA 3, STT 0
25-13, 25-14, 28-26
On Tuesday, St. Timothy's Varsity Volleyball faced off against the FCA Bravehearts. As a young team who is still learning to play together, the team had set specific goals about communication and setting up the offense. Each set saw improvements in attaining these goals, with the strongest performance in the third and final set. St. Tim's was slow to start off the match losing the first and second sets 13-25 and 14-25 respectively.

The team was finally warmed up by the start of the third set. The set was neck and neck until junior Leena Feda served eight in a row to give St. Tim's the lead. The Bravehearts fought back to bring the score 18-20. After a number of close volleys, the game was tied 25-25 with sophomore Ariyanna Crewe serving. Crewe served one ace to bring the score 26-25 in favor of St. Tim's. But then FCA was able to break the serve and came back to win 26-28.

Great improvement was shown by all of the St. Timothy's players and a special shout-out should go to the senior team captains, Melisa Kocak, Morgan Gurley, and Hannah Mays for helping to raise the team's enthusiasm level and build team spirit. Offensively, the team was led by junior Bri Rider with 9 kills and Crewe with 8. Overall, St. Tim's served at 88% with 3 out of 6 starters (Gurley, Rider, and freshman Madonna Akabuno) serving at 100%. Kocak led the team with 7 assists. Defensively, junior Derinsu Aksut had 2 solo blocks and 2 double blocks.

St. Timothy's looks forward to their opening league match on Thursday, September 12 at Beth Tfiloh at 5:30PM.
