Varsity Volleyball Defeats Indian Creek in Overtime 5th Set

St. Timothy's Varsity Volleyball defeated Indian Creek School on Tuesday 3-2.
The St. Timothy's School Varsity Volleyball team faced off against the Eagles of Indian Creek School on Tuesday afternoon. The game started off slowly for St. Tim's who didn't appear to be ready to play during the first set. There were a string of serve receive errors and St. Tim's only made it 5 rotations around the court before losing 25-11. St. Timothy's school woke up in the second set when they were down 16-8. Senior libero Maya Jans served 7 points to bring the team within one point. There was a heavy back and forth until sophomore Leena Feda came up to serve with St. Tim's down 23 to 19. Feda served five points to give St. Tim's a one-point lead. St. Tim's was able to win the second set 26-24.
In the third set, St. Tim's took a quick lead 15-5. However, the Eagles fought back and were able to bring the score within one point, 20-21. Despite some hard fought volleys, St. Tim's lost the third set 26-24. St. Timothy's fought back in the fourth set, taking an early lead 12-6. The Eagles fought back within 2, but St. Tim's continued to play strong. Sophomore Bri Rider began serving when St. Tim's was up 21-20 and was able to serve 4 in a row to finish the set 25-20, forcing the game to an overtime set.
The Eagles lost the coin toss and St. Tim's chose to remain on their current side, allowing the Eagles to have the serve. The Eagles served 2 in a row before St. Tim's could force a side out. Sophomore Caroline Cross was then able to serve 8 in a row, giving St. Tim's a substantial 8-2 lead. The set continued with each St. Tim's server contributing 3 points apiece to bring the set (and match) to a close in favor St. Tim's 15-6.
Offensively, Feda, Rider, and Cross led with 10, 7 and 7 aces, respectively. Overall St. Tim's had a 93% serving percentage, their highest all season. Senior Grace Anderson had 8 kills and Rider had 7. Setters Melisa Kocak and Cross had 6 and 4 assists, respectively. Defensively, Jans had 18 successful serve receives. Impressively, against a team with many strong hitters, Anderson had 21 digs. She was well supported by Jans, Cross, and Feda who had 14, 13, and 11, respectively. Rider also had a season-high of 4 blocks and Feda had her first block of the season.
St. Timothy's looks forward to their next game against league opponents Glenelg Country School at home on Friday at 5:45 PM.
