Varsity Volleyball Upsets first Seed Beth Tfiloh in Semifinals

On Wednesday, St. Timothy's Varsity Volleyball (4th Seed) traveled to take on the 1st seed Warriors of Beth Tfiloh.

St. Timothy's called tails and won the toss, electing to serve first. Senior Melisa Kocak made her first serve, but Beth Tfiloh was able to break the second serve to tie up the game 1-1. The Warriors took an early 4-2 lead and were able to extend that to 7-4. St. Tim's fought back to bring the game to a 12-12 tie. Kocak then served 4 in a row to give STT a 17-14 lead. The Warriors kept fighting back and eventually when the score was 21-23, BT was able to serve 3 in a row to bring about setpoint, 24-23 in their favor. However, St. Tim's broke the serve and Kocak was able to serve 2 points in a row to win the first set for St. Tim's 26-24. 

St. Tim's received in the second set and was able to break the service to give themselves a 1-0 lead. Next, sophomore Ari Crewe served 4 in a row to bring St. Tim's to a 5-1 lead. Freshman Madonna Akabuno added to the lead by serving four to bring the score to 10-4. Junior Bri Rider then served 5 in a row to increase St. Tim's lead to 16-5. St. Tim's momentum continued to push them forward, and they won the second set 25-13. 

St. Tim's had the service to start the third set. BT was able to force a side out and tied up the score 1-1. Junior Anna Trybus served 7 in a row to bring the score to 8-1. BT tried to fight back and brought the score to 6-8. Crewe then served 4 to increase STT's lead to 13-6. Feda pushed St. Tim's even further ahead when she served 6 in a row to give St. Tim's a 21-10 lead. Rider closed out the set by serving the final 4 points, giving St. Tim's a 25-12 win. 

This win propels St. Timothy's into the Championship match against Friends School on Saturday, October 26 at 2PM at Goucher College. This will be St. Tim's first championship match since they won in 2014.
